*This information about Hughie was supplied by Michael Carragher.
"Hugh emigrated to the USA, where he joined the American Expeditionary Force in New Jersey and served in the 7th Engineer Regiment of the 5th Infantry Division as a Private First Class. On October 14, 1918, the AEF had a fierce fight as the Germans defended their Kreimhild Stellung, part of the famous Hindenberg Line: "The Battle of a Nightmare," historian Basil Liddle-Hart entitles the chapter of his book that deals with it--Uncle Hughie was not the only casualty by, so to speak, a long shot. "The ... general attack on October 14 achieved little at large cost--both of men's lives and generals' reputations."
Hughie is buried at Meuse Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne, France, - a few miles north of Verdun, almost due east of Paris. He's been there for nearly 85 years and not one of his family has ever visited, a sad reflection, perhaps, on all of us, though more on the circumstances of the penniless generation that lost the letters and information that might have kept us advised. That is something I hope to put to rights this year. It would be good if you could put this information up so that others might at least know where to go to see him, if they should wish."

**Cornelius (Cornie) Coburn(2) became a US citizen and lived in Newark, New Jersey. Born in Dungooley, at his baptism, his sponsors were Patrick Garland and Sarah Coburn. He never married and is buried in New Jersey.
***Paddy is buried at Bridgacrin.

Catherine McNance had an elder brother called Jim (b, 30/1/1858). Jim married Ann McGeough on the 12/2/1884 and they moved to England around 1887. In 1901 they were living in Upton, near Birkenhead and had the following chidren. Mary Anne b.2/1/1885, Catherine(2) 1887, Alice Margaret 1889, Ellen 1891, James 1893, Elizabeth(Lizzie) 1895, Cecelia 1898 and John Michael 1900. All were born in England except Mary Anne. John Michael died the same year he was born.
The McNance surname has died out in Ireland and now only remains in the Liverpool area where Jim's family carried it on. Jim died in Liverpool in 12/4/1932 at Mount Vernon Street. McNance is probably another spelling of the name McNanez. The only other reference to this rare surname is a gravestone in Faughart graveyard erected by Patrick McNanez of Dungooly in memory of his son Charles McNanez who died 11/3/1799 aged 20 years.
